KATIE TAMOLA: Your fans loved your 2019 debut, Full Disclosure, and your sophomore novel, Off the Record, which took on the Me Too movement. Shondaland caught up with Garrett to discuss the monumental pressure thrust upon young people, the freedom YA writing gives in crafting family dynamics, and locating the confidence to do the next thing. Will she get her party? Will the girl she loves love her back? Will she finally be accepted for who she truly is? When Mahalia begins pondering her life and place in the world, a brilliant idea comes to her: Why not throw a coming-out party in the same vein as a Sweet 16?
